Wikipediaकामरुप, (प्राग्ज्योतिच्हा पौराणिक कथा मे), असम का पहला ऐतिहासिक राज्य है जो कि लगभग 800 वर्षों के लिए- 350 और 1140 CE के बीच अस्तित्व में था। वर्तमान दिन गुवाहाटी और तेजपुर में उनकी राजधानियों से तीन राजवंशों द्वारा शासित थे। यह पूरे ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी घाटी में और उत्तरी बंगाल और बांग्लादेश के कुछ हिस्सों में व्याप्त था।
हालाँकि यह ऐतिहासिक राज्य 12 वीं सदी मे गायब हो कर छोटे राजनीतिक संस्थाओं मे बदल गया। कामरूप की धारणा बनी और प्राचीन और मध्ययुगीन इतिवृत्त इस नाम से इस क्षेत्र को संदर्भित करना जारी रखा। अलाउद्दीन हुसैन शाह, जो काम्ता राज्य पर 15 वीं सदी मे आक्रमण किया, उसके सिक्के इस क्षेत्र को कम्रु या कम्रुद् कहा।
कामरूप आज असम का एक जिला मात्र रह गया है।
