सलवात, सलात (अरबी:صلاة) का बहुवचन रूप हैं| मुख्य रूप से सलात में तीन मूल अरबी शब्द है- "साद, लाम, वाव" (अरबी ص.ل. و)| दुरूद का अर्थ प्राथना, बंदगी, निवेदन, विनती, प्रशंसा और स्तुति हैं|
अरबी भाषाविदों का मानना हैं कि सलवात का मतलब इस्तेमाल करने वाले और किसके लिए इसका इस्तेमाल किया गया, उस पर निर्भर करता हैं |
