本屆自2015年12月1日至2016年1月5日受理報名，凡於2015年以臺灣地區為首次發行地並以CD形式發行之流行音樂專輯均可參賽。特別貢獻獎推薦時間則至2016年5月9日止。本屆首度開放僅作數位發行之單曲作品報名最佳年度歌曲獎，凡只要在中華民國境內三家以上合法數位銷售平臺上架之作品即可報名。本屆計有192家報名單位、482張專輯、1萬1177件作品報名。其中台灣索尼音樂有十項報名作品入圍，而蘇打綠《冬 未了》專輯共入圍八獎項，為入圍最多者。
